Fried Modak - 💢तळलेले मोदक! Steamed Step-by-step method to make💘💘 Maharashtrian Modak:


Ingredients:💘

1 cup rice flour

1 ¼ cup water

1 cup grated jaggery

1 ½ cups grated coconut

1 tbsp ghee (clarified butter)

½ tsp cardamom powder

A pinch of salt



Instructions:


Prepare the Filling:


In a pan, heat 1 tablespoon of ghee.

Add 1 ½ cups of grated coconut to the pan and sauté it for a minute.


Add 1 cup of grated jaggery to the pan with coconut.


Cook the mixture on medium heat, stirring continuously, until the jaggery melts and combines with the coconut. This should take around 4-5 minutes.


Stir in ½ teaspoon of cardamom powder for a delightful flavor.


Cook the mixture until it thickens and comes together like a sticky, cohesive mass.


Once done, remove the filling from the pan and let it cool down.


Prepare the Rice Dough:


In a separate pan, bring 1 ¼ cups of water to a boil.


Add a pinch of salt and 1 tablespoon of ghee to the boiling water.


Lower the heat and slowly add 1 cup of rice flour to the water while continuously stirring to avoid lumps.


Keep stirring until the rice flour incorporates well with the water and forms a smooth, pliable dough. It should take around 2-3 minutes.

Turn off the heat and cover the dough with a damp cloth to keep it moist.


Shape the Modaks:


Once the dough is cool enough to handle, knead it well to make it smooth and soft.


Take a small portion of the dough and roll it between your palms to form a small ball.


Flatten the ball with your fingers to form a small disc or bowl shape.

Place a spoonful of the prepared filling in the center of the disc.


Close the Modaks:


Gather the edges of the disc and bring them together to cover the filling entirely.

Seal the edges properly to form a modak shape, which resembles a dumpling or a sweet steamed momo.



Steam the Modaks:


Grease a steamer plate or line it with banana leaves to prevent sticking.


Arrange the modaks on the plate and steam them for about 10-12 minutes. They will become slightly shiny when cooked.

Serve and Enjoy:


Once the modaks are steamed, remove them from the steamer and let them cool slightly.


Offer these delicious Maharashtrian Modaks to Lord Ganesha during Ganesh Chaturthi or simply relish them as a sweet treat!
